Auckland, New Zealand, July 15 (Xinhua) -- China-themed books were showcased at the opening ceremony of the 2022 New Zealand Chinese Arts Exhibition in Auckland on Friday.

The event is held in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and China and commemorating the 125th birthday of Rewi Alley, a New Zealand-born writer who spent 60 years living and working in China and was an old friend of Chinese people.

Books on China, along with Chinese traditional paintings and calligraphy, attracted a full-packed audience of New Zealand readers at the Bruce Mason Centre at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

Chris Lipscombe, national president of the New Zealand China Friendship Society, said the organization is proud to stand alongside the exhibition organizers to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture and heritage.

"Together, we are part of creating a richer and more diverse New Zealand," said Lipscombe.

Director of the China Cultural Centre in Wellington Guo Zongguang said he believed the exhibition could help bring Chinese and New Zealand people closer together, improve cultural exchange and allow New Zealand audience with a passion for Chinese culture to learn more about the Chinese language, literature, and ancient and modern Chinese history.

"It presents New Zealand people with a colourful, vivid and fresh impression of China," said Guo.
